51″W X 61″L
Finished December 2013
I designed this quilt while traveling to teach. I love working with color gradations and high contrast. I found a great collection of ombrè batiks, purchased them and went to the hotel room. I took the colorful strips and laid them out over the white cover on the bed, right there and then I knew exactly what to do. I wanted to make a quilt that was easy and fast to piece, with a lot of open space to fill in with great quilting. Northern Lights turned into a soothing and appealing quilt. My Tiki Run pattern is a variation of this one.
Northern Lights was featured in the 2015 Winter issue of Modern Patchwork Magazine, along with three more of my newer designs.
